WOW - love the colour and texture! #14257Mark Oxley May 26, 2019
Great photo of an interesting subject. I would like to ask what lighting you use for your macro work Bob? I'm off to a butterfly farm this weekend so I hope to get some images somewhere near to your standard. #26782Robert Jensen May 26, 2019
Thank you for the comments. Mark ... to get the depth of field I need on my insect photos, I almost always use a studio strobe, so that I can light up the subject and background, and be able to set my lens to F32. I use one of the Zap studio lights from www.white-lightning.com. If you run one outdoors then you need at least a 1000 watt generator. Hope this helps. Write if you need more info.Bob J. #26799

Thanks for the info Bob. I think carting a 1000 watt generator, not to metion the power sorce is out of the question. I can just see my wifes face when I tell her she has to follow me carrying that lot around...lol. Seriously though, I was thinking og getting either a ring flash, or the new Canon Macrolite system when I purchace the planned Macro lens sometime next year. Any ideas on either of these? #26800Gary H. Minish May 26, 2019
Beautiful macro, Bob! Using the right gear obviously pays off...but how in the world did you get it to stay still while you set up all that equipment? #26806Wolfgang Dolak May 26, 2019
Perfect work, as always, Bob!Jill Battaglia May 26, 2019
Excellent as usual, Bob! -Jill B #26838Robert Jensen May 26, 2019
Gary,This was a freshly emerged moth and it's wings were still drying, so it was very cooperative.
Mark,
I'm not familiar with the Macrolite system, but I can tell you that you would be very disappointed in the long run with a ring flash. Ring flashes are very limited in their capabilities and the end results aren't always very pleasing. A good alternative is the LEPP II macrobracket which holds two flashes, or the single bracket that you can get from Really Right Stuff. Both are highly recommended by George Lepp of Outdoor Photography Magazine.

Bob, where is your announcement? I figure you've got enough images to get that photo book out by now. I won't be surprised to see it on the shelves some day soon! Congrats on all your wins! Great work as usual. #32122Stephanie Adams May 26, 2019
