Description

Early Winter in Oregon's Three Sisters Wilderness. I liked the subtle, peaceful mood and how the composition of the sweeping shoreline leads around towards the reflected peak. The hike in was a rainstorm, then a blizzard which put down 4 inches in an hour, followed by a freezing rainstorm. It was intresting to say the least. I set up camp in the fury of the storm near treeline at this remote alpine lake, about ten miles in. Fortuantely, the stormy conditions subsided by the next morning and things were as calm and placid as it gets. I was lucky to get a bit of glowing color behind the peak at dawn. I shot a couple rolls then climbed the north face of the peak and hiked out later that day.

I love the composition and the way the edge of the lake leads you in, as you mentioned. I wish I could get on some of these trips where people just go out to have fun and take a few pictures. Maybe more than I few I guess "a few rolls." Maybe someday I can get out west. What lens did you use? The huge depth of field is great. #1981618

Super image, Marc. Just like the ones that the landscape special issue of Outdoor Photographer featured! The depth of field is astounding and almost looks like the final image was made from 4-6 separate digital frames perfectly indexed and merged in "Photoshop".

Just outstanding (and worth the hike in and the harsh conditions)!

Marc,

It's obvious that I am not alone as I admire this magnificent image.

I am certain this landscape was beutiful when you saw it, but the real feat is that you have brought it with you to share with all of us here! I know how difficult it can be to get the camera to see what caught your eye, yet you have managed to do so with great technical skill, effort (not to mention freezing off parts of your anatomy!) and a true artists eye.

Thank you for making the arduous trek to capture this beauty and thank you again for allowing us see to be there as well!
