Great catch!! Are these tame?? About 200 of these landed behind my house a couple months ago (migration, I guess), but I couldn't get close enough to get a decent shot. #89985Patrick Campbell May 26, 2019
Thanks for the nice comments everyone! I found these pelicans at a smallish fishing lake about an hour away from here (near Burney, CA). They are wild. Also lots of Canada Geese, egrets, and herons. I have a Nikkor 80-400mm VR zoom lens, and was zoomed out to 400mm (600mm equivalent focal length). This is cropped a little, mainly for composition. They were dipping their beaks into the water repetitively in a semi-coordinated fashion as they moved slowly through the water, and I waited for them to all raise their beaks at the same time. #90020Suzie Strasburg May 26, 2019
